Gearshift rod snapped in half?!
03/31/16 at 16:40:50

Had this happen to me today on the way home had to baby my bike back to the house in just 5th gear. It should be easy to replace just a matter of finding the part. Other forums discussing this part that has links to where to order it lea to 404s

Anybody know where I can get my hand on one of these?

One end is left hand thread.
A drop or stomping it into first gets them bent and flexing.

Yes

Your local Suzuki Dealer, an online parts supplier.....or look for a used one on eBay.

You Can fix it. But, they are cheap... fixing stuff, if YOU can't DIY, might not be cheap.

You may be why it broke,
Do you have trouble getting in first at a stop?

I've ordered the part and now that I look back i'm almost certain that it broke because I put too much force into going into 1st. Gonna be more gentle with her from now on.

There's a tendency to stomp the lever when it gets stuck between gears. If that happens, let the clutch out slowly while pushing down on the shifter. It should pop into gear gently.

I sit at red lights in gear holding the clutch in to keep this from happening. You just have to downshift into first as you are stopping. Don't wait until you're stopped.

I stop, aimed for a getaway. I look at approaching traffic. Once a few cars are stopped behind me, I stick it in neutral, fingers covering the clutch. Watchful and ready.
How I do it varies depending on traffic and where I am in the line and some lights are longer than others,, variables,,I don't Like holding the clutch...
