carburetor problem and looking for new handlebars

Well... I dropped the bike and the bike will ride with the selector on PRI or RES. it will stall out during riding with it ON. But it will idle in the ON position. Selector kinda feels gritty. Like dirt got in it somehow. I am new to carburetors and bikes. I've rode dirt bikes for a while. Never worked on them. I work on cars a lot. I've got some basic tools. Sockets ratchets wrenches and hex keys.

Also... my handle bars are every so slightly bent. Like to just replace them since I don't particularly love them and good alternatives? Looking for something a little more bobber like.

How old is the machine? How many miles? Any non-stock modifications?

Definitely! Where are you located? I'm in Charlotte NC 28269

And the bike is 1996 savage with 18k on it. I'm thinking about doing the raptor petcock swap. It has a straight pipe exhaust. K&n air filter. And now needs some gas in the tank. It does need a cam chain versy. Tensioner n maybe head plug.

I'm still learning bout tho bike. And what parts so what mechanically. As I said, never worked on a bike before. But I want to lear as much as I can about it. And the systems on it

At 18,000miles, unless someone has dealt with the cam chain tensioner you're in the
This thing could go belly up any second
range.

Yeah, I know I'm waiting to the modified cam chain tensioner to be available. Its not moving anywhere until that gets done. So while its down in thinking of draining the tank and doing the raptor petcock swap. Since people say its easy and cheap.

I've got a list of things to do to it. Rear tire. Chain tensioner. Oil. Paint. And basic tune up.

Then handle bars and petcock it is.

Anyone got a write-up for handlebar swaps for a noobie?

I Googled the OE petcocks for our bikes. And the 96 dont look like what's on it. Anyone got an original 96 petcock for a picture?
Dont want to spend money unless it is really needed. I'd hate to already have a raptor on it.

Okay, so I drained the tank, strained the gas. And took off the petcock. No trash in tank. Blew out the petcock  and nothing but gas came out. Anyone else think it just went bad? I could hear a valve moving, open and closing. While I had it out.
