I don't want you to buy one that does slip.

I'll solve the oil discussion. shell rotella t6 synthetic with a little redline zddp additive per tech section guidelines. works like a charm with no additive, but a little is icing on the cake.

You know the lower miles usually equates to less time for the previous owner to "SCREW-THINGS-UP" .  Wink

I'm on my second Savage/S-40 now.   I learned a few lessons with the first one.

1.  when the bike warms up is the idle speed at or above 1000 rpm. ? oil circulation .
2.   Some of the guys here have got over 50,000 miles with no problems , but still the lower miles on it before you get it the better.   One feller here has over 150,000 miles on the same bike and motor.
3.   I bought a 05 in 2013 for $1750.oo .  with about 6000 miles. and a wore out rear tire.   The tire wore out in 6000 miles says "I've been ridden from red light to red light a lot  Lips Sealed"   Tire should last +-9,000 miles.
3.   bikes with windshields and bags might have been ridden easier , or for "commuting"
Thats all I can think on now !  Smiley

Rotella T, or T6, conventional or synthetic 15w40, or whatever vis the T6 is those are the best oils for this bike, bar none, though there was a scare about the synthetic at one point
I change oil at the recommended intervals, so to me synthetic is just spending more money, so i use regular Rotella T

What ever S40 you buy, just remember that the rear brake is quite prone to lock  up if applied hard, nasty in the wet.

A handheld grinder, slots across the shoes, ditch about 1/3rd of the contact surface,,,,then it's useable.

Maverick

Check the rear tire ,  it should be almost new --- but if it's wore out - then buy the bike !  Wink

anybody that gets 12k miles on the original tire is babying the thing around and being really nice to the machine.

That is a Perty Bike !   Smiley  and the price is about right for buyer and seller.

If ya get it , do the Versey sometime soon , at 12k miles the adjuster should go back to almost -0-  Cool just about perfect timing !

when new , the adjuster isn't at -0- , and the original "stretch" has already happened .  Smiley
