Stock exhaust and muffler for a 98?
03/18/16 at 09:39:08

Hey gang,

I picked up this bike a few weeks back and just started wrenching on it trying to figure out a few things and I realized that the exhaust/muffler does not look like any other savage exhausts I have seen.  Could explain a few things.

Does anyone have a picture of a stock 98 exhaust and muffler?

Better yet, does anyone have a spare laying around that might be for sale?

Thanks in advance!

The stock muffler for a 98 looks like any year muffler....they are all the same on the S40/LS650.  You can even look on the Suzuki Motorcycle website at a photo of a 2015 or 2016 model....it is still the same.

Look in the Marketplace...there are some for sale.

Example of Dave's post :    In the next couple of weeks I'll be replacing my system. Header, muffler (stock AND EMCO) as well as the lower heat shield.  Not perfect, but pretty decent. i.e. No dents or damage. Just normal road wear. (No top collar, but you might find on EBay.)

Wouldn't go back to stock. The Dyna is the easy, cheap, nice looking/sounding muffler.

Hi All,

Thank you for all of your help.  I'm not sure which direction I want to go in.  Stock, Dyna, Mac?

All I want is for the darn thing to stop backfiring so badly.  I adjusted the carb to the point where I'm worried that that little screw will fall out and I'm not sure that I'm doing more harm than good.  Can someone please let me know what the pros and cons are of these mufflers and if you offered to sell one, please pm me the price.

Thank you,
J-P   Embarrassed Embarrassed (that's my confused look)

JPSavage,

convert to the Dyna. Yoshi has one for sale above.
Then rejet the carb.
And then ask Dave "HOW TO USE YOUR THROTTLE."

Trust me on this, my bike sounded like a misfiring machine gun, the backfire was so bad. Did the above and changed my throttle habit/use and problems went away.

Thanks to DAVE and crew  Wink

They don't "jump" in this neck of the woods..... They dive for cover......
