The Dyna has proven itself to be easily tuned to. Cheap, readily available, and good looking, nice sound..
First thing to check out is leaks. The header bolts are notorious for getting loose. And, you can shaft yourself wonderfully by trying to tighten it up, so it's never gonna leak again.
Adjust cold, one hand, thumb on the end by the nut, rotate by closing fingers. Don't involve the arm muscles. Feel of it. I used antisieze there. I'd rather hafta check it and adjust than watch it rust or twist it off.
When you go to swap out the muffler, remove the whole exhaust system and then wrestle the old one off the header.
Gotta be careful about those skinny little studs in the head.
That header and Dyna offer might be good.
How old is the Dyna? Miles run?

I'd check the carb to head bolts too. mine were loose. In fact go around you bike and check ALL the nuts and bolts, I've lost a BUNCH

I'm NOT gonna do it, ohhh, but the Temptation is great.
You have been around long enough to know better than leave such low hanging fruit right in front of me. I've already taken a cheap shot at Art, so, my appetite is satisfied for now.

Hi All,

Thank you for all of your help.  I'm not sure which direction I want to go in.  Stock, Dyna, Mac?

All I want is for the darn thing to stop backfiring so badly.  I adjusted the carb to the point where I'm worried that that little screw will fall out and I'm not sure that I'm doing more harm than good.  Can someone please let me know what the pros and cons are of these mufflers and if you offered to sell one, please pm me the price.

Thank you,
J-P   Embarrassed Embarrassed (that's my confused look)

Never exceed 3 turns out on the pilot screw.  Beyond that you cannot be sure it will not vibrate loose.  Once you get past 2 turns out you need a larger pilot jet, then go through the tuning process again starting at 1 turn out.

Hey gang,

Trying to revisit this post from last (maybe two) week.

Does this diy look familiar to anyone?  Looks like the guy welded the muffler to the exhaust.  The stock bracket is still on the bike, at least I assume it's the stock bracket, b/c there's nothing attached to it!

Thanks again!
