ok so the wife wants to ride now.....
03/13/16 at 09:35:27

Not that I am complaining but after just changing the bike to solo bobber style now she wants to come to bike weekends with me and ride on the back.

The rear fender now moves with the swing arm so I do not think a slap on will be safe.

She should be high enough where she wouldn't be blocking the turn signals and forward enough to not block brake light. All this for probably 5-6 times to ride with me a year.

Thoughts.....?

So what about fabricate a seat pan for original rear seat that stable enough to attach to the frame possibly where the old fender did on the "horns"

And if that still not stable enough maybe fabricate a bar with bungs for springs that attach to the rear fender strut and rest on the fender that attach to the rear seat.

If you are going to add a seat for her.....I think you need to make it so you can take your solo seat off, and then bolt on the double seat.  The support for the double seat should come off the frame so she has he benefit of the suspension - bolting supports to the rear swing arm would be brutal....even worse than a hardtail as the swing arm moves independent of the bike frame and it would only be her and the swing arm absorbing the bumps.

Wasn't planning on making it mount to swing arm. Was planning on mounting to where stock fender used to. Should I use rails instead of a pan though?

Those small photos you provided made it hard to see what you planned....I guess I interpreted the sissy bar mounted to the fender and swing arm being used as a seat support.

You need to use something that has the ability to hold your wife up....and I can't see how a pan can do it without some form of structure that attaches to the current frame.

the more I think on just the idea, its probably safer and more comfortable for "bar hopping" just to swap to rigid struts and a slap on to the fender.

since you have the sissy bar attached to the swingarm, yes! you don't want it to smack the back of your wifes head if you ever want to get any again.

Using struts to support the passenger seat might be a good solution if your rides are short and the roads are smooth.

You could make a frame that incorporates the struts in back, and attaches farther forward on the frame for the front of the seat.

Get her a bike.
You rode with her, she changed her mind. You modified your bike. I'm guessing you're liking it.  Do YOU want to change it?
How long till she changes her mind, again?

The hope was to make something that could be taken on and off the bike to accommodate the rare occasion she does want to ride.

So sortof if I made a rail system that bolted to the frame that went under my seat and extended enough to allow the passenger seat.

A bike for her isn't in the budget, and a second bike isn't in the budget.

Well, you can figure out a way to get her safely seated.
You can Un Do the mods.
You can sell it and get another one that hasn't been modified.
Or,
You Could call her and explain to her that SHE is the one who decided to not ride it.
I'd probably be in another state...
