Hi due to my ankle bone being fused.... i have a small problem. I was wondering if anyone has ever replaced their shifter peg... i am going for the 3 3/4 long peg. the tap for it is 5/16-24 ...it seems like it will be ok...i hope so...as my bike is brand new and love the style of it...any help appreciated...Thanks Pam

Pam,
It sounds like you are trying to fit the shifter peg off of a Harley onto your S40.
I have Sportster Shift Pegs on almost every bike that I have ever owned and I know they are 5/16-24 threads. I have a tap and also a HeliCoil set for that size.
Where are you located?
It looks like you can grind off the steel peg from the shift lever and probably drill and tap and add the peg to the shift lever. If not you may have to get a welder to build up the shift lever or weld a nut on the end of the lever.
If you put your location on with your Avatar there may be someone nearby that can help you.

I am in the Alexandria/Silver Grove area......officially Camp Springs - but we aren't big enough to become "official".

Instead of drilling/tapping for a Harley part.....what about removing the rubber piece, cutting the steel peg in half, welding in an extension under the rubber, then put two rubber covers (or a piece of rubber tubing) over the new extended peg? That way the chrome can be saved where it shows.

If the rubber comes off the Harley peg..,....we could just move it over to the Suzuki once the peg is extended. (It will be hard to modify the shifter lever to accept a threaded shaft.....and keep the chrome intact and shiny.
