I'm going to throw the Yamaha SR400/SR500 in that ring! Still a high quality big single with some classic sporty looks !

after a fairly exhaustive search of current cruiser offerings, I've realized it's a pipe dream.

If I want more HP, modern FI, at around the same curb weight, body width and ride height, it ain't gonna happen w/o a significant increase in weight. 4 outta 5, not sure I'm willing to give up the "zippy" spirit of the S40.

IT'S WAY TOO FUN TO GIVE UP!

I too would be willing to buy a Yamaha SR400, but the time and expense involved in owning two motorcycles is all I can handle for the immediate future.

The HOA here where I live already frowns on giving me a permit to park one automobile in the driveway overnight.

Couple of weird ones: Yamaha virago 535: 41 hp, 180ish kg. Low seat hight, pretty comfy.
Ducati Pantah TL: touring version of the SL Pantah. 50ish hp, 170something kg. Flat bars , nice seat and low enough seat height. Ugly as sin but can be had cheap. Very reliable engine and same engine/ chassis as the sport version.

Both are oldies.

Oh yer...Enfield Bullet, if you have a sense of humour.

I found the Virago 535 and actually went and bought one and rode it along with the Savage.

The Virago ate the stock Savage up easily, but then the Stage 1 cammed Savage ate up the Virago 535, so the Virago 535 eventually went away to unnecessary used bike land .....

So yes, unless I want to buy a Duke 390 or a Vulcan S, that old Savage bike out in my garage is the very best one for me out there at this time.

Oldfeller, I remember my step-dad owned a Virago 535 from back in the day. He rode that bike for his hour commute in 120* F weather down in Yuma, AZ. He would come home with 2nd degree burns on any skin exposed. My guess is that's why he drank so much beer after work!!!  Shocked

I kinda like that Moto Guzzi that is a nice bike.

This might be a bit heavy for some of you gents but it's quite a leap from the "small" LS650.

It is a thumper! Introducing the NSU2000

I couldn't find any mention of your comment "Did you hear what they said about IRC tyres?"

I just replaced my IRC tires with Shenko 230s.

On dry roads I though the IRCs were OK.

Kenny G I don't think the Indian testers in the first video had much time for them. I forget what bike had them, possibly the Ninja but there is a short clip of someone holding a cigarette lighter against the rear one to "warm it up". There was also a remark about them lasting a month.

STATEMENT:    INDIA IS THE HOME OF MOTORCYCLING NOW, not the USA and not Japan

India builds them all now, and they have the BIGGEST fan population of bike riders in the world now.

Get past the broken english, these guys really do get into the details very very well.

What can they do and how fast can they do it?   This tells the tale.

Yes, they build a lot of bikes. But, the average Indian rider (the ones you see on the interwebs) can't ride to save his life, is afraid of the front brake, doesn't understand build quality and is trying and failing to imitate being a western Hipster. A lot of the road tests I've seen are runs along a straight road with no cornering being done, then a complaint about hard seats, poor riding comfort and vibration, or not enough vibration, or too much fuel consumption or something. And mostly really poor copycat western try-hard journalism. I don't put much stock in anything an Indian has to say on the subject of motorcycles. That vid was typical: a stright line speed run passed off as a definitive comparison. They're hopeless. (BTW those speeds were in KPH, not MPH in case anyone didn't know).
I very quickly skipped through the powerdrift video with the sound down (at work) and wasn't impressed with that either. No special cornering skills there. Nothing to trouble a tyre and any handling problems would more likely been down to lack of talent. Big chicken strips on the tyres, anyway.

Reminds me of us back in the 60's and 70's, huh?

India is where they are all built now -- and the Indian motorcycle press are moving the models around now with these inane comments.

I wasn't around then. Was the journalism surrounding the first wave of Japan's bikes as asinine as India's journalism?
