Bonneville seat conversion
03/03/16 at 12:39:54

Hi All,
The plan is to convert Savage to naked bike with relatively little work. I like the idea of Bonneville T100 seat installation like in another post: http://suzukisavage.com/cgi-bin/YaBB.pl?num=1377965704

From the post the following modification have been done:
- rear seat holder / chrome sissy bar removed,
- fender / rear light moved down
- rectifier relocated

This Bonneville T100 seat seems to match Savage frame quite well:
https://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/421x562q90/r/921/nJMPK0.jpg

I tried to find more similar projects in "Bike Builds" post but all are bobbers and RYCA projects.
Anyone did such modification and is willing to share experience?
Its important for me (strict rules for motorbike registration) to leave the frame in original condition (no cutting/welding). Then, I am happy to share the pictures from conversion project which can be useful for other guys.
Many thanks!

Wow! Looks so nice. That seat plus some longer rear shocks and maybe an 18" wheel = a sweet, simple standard conversion! In for more info!

CZU:

The only Bonneville seat conversion is the one you linked.....it most likely is the only place you will find any information about the seat swap.

I remember this.  It is a nice looking seat. IIRC, he didn't use this seat after all.  He went with another option because this seat wasn't going to be "relatively simple" after all.  Looks cool though.

I most likely will head down this path soon....I plan on making a theft recovery bike I have into a 70's era replica bike - with a flat seat, mid pegs, and gearing for touring on the bike.  I will look at seats from some older bikes that are a bit shorter than that Bonneville seat.....it looks just a bit too long for the bike to me.  The old Suzuki T500 or GT bikes, the first generation Gold Wings, etc.  With all the Cafe' and Bobber conversions....it shouldn't be hard to find a "take off" seat.

I cut the crown off of the rear fender to make a flat spot.

Where did you relocate the rectifier?  Was it difficult?

Since I was just in the design phase, I just rested the rectifier in there, never really mounted it, but it wouldn't be hard to find a spot.

You will notice the chrome pieces on either side of the rear fender are the style that accommodates the back rest. I ended up buying a used pair of chrome pieces that don't rise up at the rear.

My bike is a never ending canvas. I am always goofing with it, never satisfied. Here is a photo of it in it's most recent project phase.
