Sticking with it.....
03/02/16 at 17:12:30

I made a News Years resolution.... yeah, I know, great  Roll Eyes
But I really wanted to get my health together before I retire. Overall, I am in good shape, my blood work shows no signs of any diabetes or ills.
I was, am, carrying to mcsh bulk. At 6 foot and 253 I want to get to 200, or less, so I made the resolution to finally DO IT!
I have lost over twenty pounds coming in at 230 today.
I feel better, have energy, but most of all, I really want to do this and hold it for the rest of my days....
So far all I have done is eat smarter/better. When I get to around 220 I will start doing some training to trim and build tone.

I will do this  Grin

PS: I will be the prettiest 63 year old riding a savage in Pudget Sound, soon  Kiss

Well, if you lose weight and start getting more energy, she probably will want to know Smiley or she will find out when you start chasing her around again Cheesy

I was 198 at 5'10" and dropped 50lbs for my 50th birthday Smiley
By 53 I had gained back 45lbs....

Keep with your program.... do it for something... you , her, the kids, the grandkids, or a longer life..... if you do it for a good reason, you will stick with it Smiley

Raydawg, good luck with that resolution. Sounds like you've taken it serious up to this point. It's hard the older you get it seems. I'm 5'11" and bounce around in the hi 180's. I have for a few years. I know id feel better if I lost 15 lbs. or so.

Best of luck, Raydawg!

After my 2013 'cycle accident that shattered my left knee, I got up to 180 lbs from being less active (I'm 5'8", 58 yrs old, btw). In Oct 2014, I decided to "take my life back" with weight training, moderate cardio, & tracking my nutrition closely. By the time my 40th hi school reunion rolled around last July, I was 142 lbs & had gained some lean muscle mass. (Was gratifying to see that the jocks in my class were sporting "bay windows" over their belt buckles...lol.)

If a non-jock like me can do it, you can, too!   Smiley

Dawg, I'd go ahead and add the strength and cardio now, plus mobility work, I think you'll make faster progress
Just don't overdo it, a good setup for general fitness would be something like this
Monday, Thursday: strength
this can and should be very basic, an upper body pull, and upper body push, squats, deadlifts  A sample:

Monday: Lat pulldowns / pullups, bench press, DL
Thursday: Barbell row or seated row, Overhead Press, squats

Tuesday, Friday
conditioning, walk, jog, do wind sprints, make yourself sweat
Pushups ,inverted rows, unweighted squats in a circuit, squat thrusts or burpees, you name it, it goes here

Wednesday: mobility work
stretching, dynamic mobility exercises (bear crawls and such) or just do some easy beginner yoga

this works for us older fellas if we're not stupid about how fast to progress
the strength work will help retain bone mass / density as well as muscle, the conditioning will improve cardio health and endurance, and the mobility work will keep all the moving parts greased up and moving smoothly

as bad as my mobility is, I do a this every day, to keep things moving
