Lowering the sav?

anyone know a good easy way to lower the rear end of the savage? I would like to avoid cutting up the original shocks.. maybe a good alternative method? aftermarket shocks?

Well...most of us try to raise the back a bit.....to get more suspension travel and a bit less rake up front.  The stock shocks only have 1.5' of travel, and that really isn't enough when you hit the big bumps.

The only way I believe you could lower it....is with struts.  I don't think shorter shock will work, or the tire will hit things  when the shock is compressed.

Awesome, I'm trying for a old school chopper look with my bike, I was just reading up on making my own struts and adjusting to my liking.. I'll also be able to put the shocks back on if it's awful

if you have unlimited time, you might look for a wheel with a smaller diameter, perhaps while converting to chain drive?

Yet, given the short rebound at present, I wouldn't want to go there-unless I had a spare back. Grin

If you have speed bumps or any uneven places where you go, you might wanna look at the clearance you have now. They sit pretty low.

got it, I'm gonna go with struts, when I bought my bike it had progressive shocks on it that I feel heightens the bike a bit too much for my aesthetic pleasure

Maybe all you need would be a set of stock shocks to get the height where you want it.

I really don't think struts are a possibility - unless you get a sprung seat.  Even with the stock shocks and stock seat.....I have hit potholes that compressed my spine and sent an electric shock up my back - I can't imagine the pain or physical damage to my body if I had no rear suspension on the bike.

I run struts on all of my bikes. If you need a little give, let a few pounds of air out of the tire...I'm 51 years old,280lbs and 6'2"I've had them with springs undere the seat, but at my size it makes bottoming out worse.Makes you a better rider. You actually have to pay attention to the road.I live in the pothole capital...Ohio.
