I've had a replacement breather hose for a while and decided to replace it today; mine was hardened and cracked where it connects to the nipple on the head.
I left the bike on the side stand, pulled the seat and disconnected the speedo cable from the tank but left the on the bike with a block of wood propping up the front so I could remove the chrome cover and access the breather tube connection.  I was being lazy and didn't want to pull out my bike stand or disconnect the fuel line and completely remove the tank.
Well, the block of wood shifted and tank fell toward the left side of the bike.  Now I have dents and scratches in my tank.
My mood is rather negative.  I mean it's just "stuff".  Not like someone I know was injured or ill.  But still, so mad at myself for letting this happen.

So, take the time to do the job right.  Even a little job.

Sorry about the tank, remember the only people who don't screw up are the ones who don't do anything.  Nothing disappoints me more than myself when I screw something up.  My father was a successful man and he lived by a few simple rules. One time after I had screwed something up he said to me.  "Never worry about a mistake, worrying accomplishes nothing.  If you can fix it, then fix it.  If not forget about it."

Yes, even the "pro's" do such things; as when they rebuilt the engine on my wife's Sunbeam - now if only they had put oil in it I am sure it would have worked better.

I have to fess up to doing that one myself once
my only defense is I was doing a lot more than an oil change and the driver was yammering in my ear the whole time
of course I was out of pocket for the repair

then again, 5-10 oil changes a day, plus brake jobs, tranny swaps, motor swaps, AC repair, cooling system repair, etc, etc, etc, 1 stupid mistake in 5 years is a pretty darn good record
