My Gawd......
01/29/16 at 04:45:30

Was thinking about religions......
Why do I believe and expect from that faith?

I answered myself with: I desire to be a better human being, husband, father, friend, servant.

What can I expect from practicing my faith:
Serenity, peace and joy, contentment of life.

Now, can I expect a religion to deliver on that if it instructs me to act out in a manner that removes those very "hopes" that I have for myself?

How is battling others ideology sustainable?

I'm not able to read that and get an understanding of the question.

I answered myself with: I desire to be a better human being, husband, father, friend, servant.

All of the above are accomplished in Very good fashion, daily, by atheists.

What can I expect from practicing my faith:
Serenity, peace and joy, contentment of life.

Again, atheists that I have known were some of the coolest, easy going, honest, trustworthy, happy people I've met.

Now, can I expect a religion to deliver on that if it instructs me to act out in a manner that removes those very "hopes" that I have for myself?

There's a difference between being a member of a club, name a religion that has certain do's and don'ts, and having faith in a creator and understanding yourself relative To that creator. Joining a club, or church, whose bylaws, or doctrines, go counter to YOUR HEARTS KNOWLEDGE of right and wrong, well, that'd just be stupid, wouldn't it?
So, what if you're Born into a family who believes that crap?
Well, at some point, you'll either start to wonder if that's actually correct or you won't.
If your daddy beat you, would you justify beating your children because you were beaten or would you call it wrong and be different?

How is battling others ideology sustainable?

Right and wrong, for some, doesn't even exist. The unapologetic mass murderer has no inner Check on his behavior because he has a conscience. The only regulatory device that impedes his killing sprees is his concern about being caught.
Then we get to consider the masses who have
Joined Clubs
and bought into doctrines. Sustainability isn't the deciding factor.
It's not even a consideration. It's about Right and Wrong. The Problem is that Some people believe that some things are WRONG and are willing to kill or be killed in order to Stop that Wrong from being committed.
Imagine your sister was raped, so, you HAD to kill her.
That's the only Right thing to do.

How is Sustainable part of the decision making process in deciding whether or not to embrace that culture into ours?

Yes JOG, that is the question, how?

You say sustainability is not to be considered?

I say its everything.

Judgement is not mine, or I would by default, supersede my "faith" if I carried out punitive punishment.
Won't  I be susceptible to one with more "faith" (power) to judge me then?
What if I don't fall within his beliefs, and punished accordingly, even death, that is not sustainable on my buzz, no.

I wish you'd explain exactly how that wall of separation works.

And Dawg, maybe the word sustainability is confusing me.
I try to explain my thinking so everyone understands what I am trying to say. Then they can explain why they disagree.

Are you believing that you can't defend yourself?
What are you trying to get me to understand?
Using the same words over in a different order probably won't help.

Sustainability is the ability to continue a defined behavior indefinitely. To define what environmental sustainability is we turn to the experts. Herman Daly, one of the early pioneers of ecological sustainability, looked at the problem from a maintenance of natural capital viewpoint.

If we are talking about conflicting ideologies and one of them is happy enough to kill the other, then the conflict can not, by definition, be
Sustainable
by everyone involved.

Are you believing that you can't defend yourself?

No, not sure how you got there.

I will put sustainability to something like this....

Perpetual motion.
It needs no other outside influence to keep its motion going.

Does that help buddy?

Ok.....

Question: What is needed to do anything, even to think?

A: Energy

Question: What happens when I run out of energy?

A: I die. I no longer have the capacity to think or achieve my wants and needs.

Question: What was needed to start/create all that your mind thinks and eyes see Jog?

A: Energy, a source of power, be it a BIG bang, or intelligent design, or?

Question: Where/what was the original source, of energy, elements,  that created all that we see and know?

A: It was from something that was able to create its own, or self sustaining. All it needs, and wants, it already has the capacity to achieve it......

I look for that source and tap into it, and then I get the benefits of self sustainability, up to a certain point, if I stay connected to it.

As designed, I alone do not have the real capacity to be self sustaining,  but I have the right receptacle if I choose to avail myself to that source.   Grin

I am like a mini solar system, I have all sorts of planets and stars that revolve around me.
I have influence, but no control over them.
However, my little solar system, is part of a greater solar system, more massive than my ability to discern or grasp, yet, I know its fact, only because of the influences it has over me, which I can tell deeply in my being (soul).
It fills the voids, and answers the unknown, to me.

Even more confused than ever now JOG  Wink

What can I expect from practicing my faith:
Serenity, peace and joy, contentment of life.

Boy, I wish that were true.

It's more likely, what you'll get is this:

9 “Then you will be handed over to be persecuted and put to death, and you will be hated by all nations because of me. 10 At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other, 11 and many false prophets will appear and deceive many people. 12 Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold, 13 but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved. 14

Faith is a struggle, a fight. A losing fight at that. There is no peace to it.
