Shiny valve covers
01/25/16 at 22:08:51

Do the valve covers provide any advantage besides bling?

I saw a bobbed bike with them removed, I am thinking I would like to change my ride to a more subdued appearance, and am looking for ways to cut down on all that shiny-ness Suzuki slapped on these things.

They are there to interfere with Spark plug access.

Without them,... you might be tempted to do your own maintenance... Cool

Actually,.. the valve covers, front and rear... are useful...
You are speaking of the decorative? chrome, head covers?...
They do nothing, but hide the beauty of your engine...

A simple mod makes a swingaway out of the starboard side.

If you do remove them (the official name in the parts list is "cap, head cover"), there will be a long stud at the left front corner.  You really should have a nut on this stud, as it holds the front corner of the head cover in place.  Stack some washers so you can tighten the nut....or find a suitable spacer to use.  If you ever need to take the head cover off to replace a leaky head plug....you can install a shorter bolt that won't stick up so far.

Thank you for the good info, and entertainment! I still have to figure out other pressing matters like tuning my carb.

If you find the shininess offensive you can sand them and go flat black.
