I don't see how not taking the spoils of war strengthened our position or how taking them would have weakened it.

The rules in a store and war might be somewhat different.
OUR flag should be waving over Iraq, and here, much as I want the bases closed and people brought home, this is different. We Know that they sit on important resources. We spend blood and money to defeat them,   and WALK AWAY? Wanna decrease the dollars America spends on energy? All we had to do was load and ship. What WE did was insane. Some more.

The chasm between your beliefs and reality just got a huge spotlight shined on it. It would be hours of wasted time and effort trying to point out the obvious. In short, WE found unhappy people and supported them with guns, money, food, everything an army needs. He simply Was NOT gonna remain in charge. And all that, while the alleged hijackers were predominantly from Saudi Arabia AND  Bush knew there were no WMDs to find. He joked about
Hmm, no WMDs there, Nope, none there either,, standing at the podium. Once the people knew that the whole Reason for invading was a trumped up farce, they changed the reason to
Well, he's just a bad guy and we owe it to the poor, innocent people of Iraq to rid them of this evil dictator.

When the narrative starts to fail, Relabel it!

Sure there would not have been ISIS.  I'm not condoning his actions; although, he did maintain stability.  He probably isn't doing anything the Saudi's aren't doing....  Not sure, all I know the state is cutting off heads at a record pace this year.  Regardless, I think we went in because of the Wolfowitz doctrine and Saddam's decision to sell oil in Euros as opposed to dollars solidified that decision.

Best regards,

I would agree that the decision to sell oil in Euros rather than the Almighty Dollar was the driving factor. Oddly, after seeing that and the list of countries that were going to be overthrown was made public, the leader of Libya decided to sell oil in a manner that would be less than good for the dollar. Amazing as it may seem, HE ,too, was overthrown.

Who was it that fought his army?

We went to Help the People, and we DESTROYED the worlds greatest irrigation system to do it? That was The most advanced society in Africa. The people absolutely had it made. Just as long as they didn't kick him in the nads. He rode through town standing up, upper body sticking out of the car, and people were all around, military with weapons, too. And our presidents are too CHICKENSHIT to be around their Own military with weapons.
Look at the pictures, taken
With the troops.

Again I ask.

How it that General Wesley Clark KNEW, so far in advance, the countries that would need our help?
That list was created shortly after 9-11, so, how is it that the countries Did indeed need Our attention, yet, the Reasons FOR that attention developed so long After the list was known?

And the names on the list were so correct. As if Edgar Cayce wrote it.

If anyone Hasn't read up on what life was like in Libya, the medical, education, cost of electricity and gasoline,it was incredible. The Oil money supported everyone, not just the few.
I wasn't There, so, I don't know how cool it really was. One thing is Certain, IF it was better than here, our media would not tell it. So, I just dunno.

Seems I lost a paragraph or two somewhere, or, I'm gonna reproduce them,,, Anyway,

People who have never read up on life in Libya really should check out the cost of electricity and gasoline and education and health care. Rather than just become a multigazzilionaire, he built things and provided for the People, too, with the oil money.
WHY there were people who were wanting to rebel, darn iff I know. But, I was not there, only get the information I get, and I just dunno. Everything I've read, sounded like a pretty nice place to me.
