Metzler 880 is phasing out.  888 is phasing in

Mods, feel free to move to appropriate forum.

I am a long time fan of the Metzler ME Marathon tire.
I ride quite a bit, so I don't mind spending a bit more for a long life tire, and I really like the way the ME 880 handles on all surfaces and all conditions.

Got a shock when I needed to replace the front tire on Thumper.  The 100/90-19 ME 880 could not be found anywhere!!  Smiley
But.. wait.  I see the ME 888 in that size.  But not in the 140/80-15 ?? Huh

More research.  Metzler is phasing out the 880, and the new tire for that application is the 888.  They are designed to work well together (if having the same kind of tire front and rear is important to you).
At some point in time, the 140/80-15 will be available in the 888.

So, bought the 888 front tire, and had it put on yesterday.  We shall see how well it behaves on dry roads, in rain, and mud, and dirt, and goat paths.   Tongue

Oh.. for the curious, the old front tire had 35,000 miles on it, and was almost 2 years old.   Cheesy

Most motorcycle problems are caused by the nut between the seat and the handlebars. Make sure yours isn't too tight or too loose.

The tread pattern on the 880 appears to be a bit more aggressive than the newer 888 - and for your riding style the new tire may not provide as much traction when you leave the paved roads and get into the loose stuff.

Getting 35,000 miles out of a motorcycle tire is very impressive.....especially in just 2 years!

Indeed, I only put 6k on my S40 in that time
Of course, she spent a fair bit of that time relegated to 2nd bike status

I had the Metzler 888 tires on my V Star 1100. I had 17-18000 miles on the back tire and was just starting to get a narrow wear mark down the middle. It would have easily gone well over 20000 miles.
