My opinion: this bike falls into the category of 'bigger is not better'. At 650/750cc this would have been a bigger winner. Where I live, there is an insurance break at 750cc. Above that, these new Triumphs don't have the performance, but all the weight of larger, better bikes, but you pay the higher insurance. Modern 650/750 Bonnies would have sold out easily, every year. YMMV! Cool

ps: high value/perf for few dollars is my fav: Yam FZ07 !!!!!

I believe the larger cc engines provide more torque and the ability to ride with less shifting than the smaller 650/750 bikes....and a higher top speed and more relaxed engine at highway speeds.

The Rockers were challenged to do the ton on their 60's era Triumph 650's, and bike owners today expect more performance when they spend this much money.

as a former owner of a BSA Thunderbolt, 650 was plenty, 750 would have been paradise. At that time, the Vincent was 1000cc and rare, Norton was 750, Honda became 750, and then Kawasaki opened the door to popular large displacement bikes with a 900, and the escalation in displacement was underway. But the mass of riders, harley excepted, did well with 500/650 bikes. Highways were no problem with my thunderbolt. Admission: I've never owned anything larger than my 650, and never felt the need, so take my rambling with a grain of salt.
