Well, I finally got to look at the Scootanic today, and I pulled the trigger
S40 is gone
and the Swing is taking it's place
downsides: low speed handling will require some work, as the clutch goes to freewheeling below 2k RPM, you have to load the throttle against the brakes to keep the power on. This will take some practice
the handling will never be as good as a 'real' moto at low speeds / on tigh twisties
I don't really like the tipsy feeling at low speeds
upsides, felt very relaxed at 70 during the test ride, better gas mileage, underseat storage (enough to hold 2 FF helmets)
24 month 'warranty' in case of breakage
my monthly payment will be 121 and change, not too shabby
I think in the long run I'll be glad I did this, though i suspect I will miss the S40
said and done, I mostly ride high speed highway now, and the Swing, I think, is a better bike for that
