Probably not.  The temperature change after the pulley change was a result of the engine turning lower revs at highway speeds  (70-75 mph).

Interesting thread.  My other bike is a KLR 650 which is a water cooled dual sport.  I was reading that it is designed to operate at a temp of 160.  A lot of the seasoned KLR guys put on a by pass so the operating temp is a constant 195 degrees.  They say it gives the cylinder a longer life because their are no fluctuations in temp.  Compared to an air cooled engine, the changes in temp are really insignificant.
