Engine Temperature

I am curious to see what the average engine operating temperature is for a savage. Does the fluctuations in in temperature have an adverse affect on the cylinder? How does the rear cylinder of an air cooled stay at a reasonable temperature. Also, how about the liquid cooled engines. I have been reading up on this lately and wanted to get your thoughts.

I can assure you my favorite v-twins are proper! The cylinders are at a 90 deg angle and they are both out in the wind...engine mounted longitudinally. Guess which ones

When I had the Trail Tech Vapor on my bike, it had a temperature gauge. I mounted the sensor on the left rear cylinder stud, as it is impossible to mount it under the spark plug on a Savage.

On most back road riding in the summer the head temperature was around 240-260 degrees. When I hit the interstates and was cruising at 70mph the temp would get up around 280. A few times when oldfeller or MMRanch took me through downton Pigeon Forge on 90 degree days and in stop and go traffic the head temperature could get up to 300.

When I switched to the Kawasaki pulleys and got my rpm down at cruise, the head temperature dropped about 20 degrees from what it was with stock gearing.
