Oil Leaky around head gasket?
12/14/15 at 20:14:06

I cleaned all the oil off when I got the bike home. There's Oil up around the spark plug area and it appears to be flowing down next to the exhaust port. Then it flows around making it look to be a leaking head gasket.

Could it be that nasty hole plug I keep hearing about? Can that be operated on with engine still in the frame?

Thank you!

If your head plug has never been replaced (properly), then likely it is a source of oil and the head plug should be replaced.  This does not require removal of the engine from the frame.  The plug that Verslagen makes is better than the stock plug....you can click on his "Verslagen's Place" photo and it will take you to the place where you can order from him.

There are also a few other places that can leak.  The nuts on the studs just under the intake/exhaust ports can leak oil.  Remove the nuts, clean them off well, and put a bit of sealer on the stud and wide base of the nut and then put them back on and snug them up pretty good - but not "Gorilla" tight.

The left front cylinder stud has a void around it and the oil from the cylinder head flows down the void to return to the crankcase.  Occasionally oil will seep out around this washer/nut.  Remove the nut and washer, clean the nut/washer/stud, and then apply a bit of sealer to the washer on both sides, apply "anti-sieze" to the stud, and then torque it down to the proper specs.

Sometimes the sealer between the cylinder head and head cap, and for some reason it tends to go bad just above the spark plug.  If you have to reseal this area....then you should use the proper Suzukibond as it is easier to work with and sets up slower than the normal RTV gasket maker sold at auto parts stores.  If you want black use Suzukibond - if you want grey use Hondabond.  Here is a link to where I got a bike out of storage, and used 5 psi of compressed air connected to the breather tube and soapy water sprayed out of a window cleaner bottle to find the leak on a bike I bought.
