Has anyone tried one of the quick turn throttle mods on the Savage? As tame as that engine is, it probably wouldn't hurt much. Would it increase wrist fatigue on long rides?

By the way, has anyone here attempted to make a homemade throttle tube? I've had some ideas.

I've ridden a little over 1K miles.

It's a rather tame bike anyway, and one could cam it so that low throttle conditions won't be so sensitive. But, hey, what do I know?

Quick turn throttles are used on race bikes, and they work especially well on the bikes under 250cc, where you use full throttle a lot.  Quick turn throttles are not great on road bikes, and especially for you on that muddy gravel road you ride on.

I have a different throttle control on my Cafe' bike, and it has an option for a "fast" or "enduro" setting on the throttle tube.  The enduro setting is a bit slower, and even then the throttle feels like it is either "ON" or "OFF" when riding in the lower gears.  It is not easy to hold a steady speed at low speeds.......once you get up to cruising speeds and the throttle is opened up farther, it works fine.

The Savage engine and carb does not respond well to fast changes in throttle settings.  "Cracking" the throttle wide open in a hurry opens the butterfly and stops all fuel flow from the pilot circuit, and the suddenly opened throttle causes the vacuum in the intake to drop drastically....the result is that the vacuum operated slide drops fully down to restore the vacuum - but in doing so it also drops the needle jet and stops fuel flow out of the jet needle and main jet.  You will get smoother and faster acceleration by rolling the throttle on and not throwing the carb into a situation that causes low engine vacuum in the intake.  Closing the throttle too quickly also throws the carb into a "lean" condition, and is the reason the bike pops and farts out the exhaust if you close the throttle completely while you are slowing down.

Just go buy a stock plastic throttle tube, put it on the bike with whatever grips you decide to buy.....and ride the darn thing and get some riding experience and work on becoming an experienced rider.  Fancy bar ends won't work with the stock handlebars as they have metal weights welded into the ends of the handlebars to help cut down on vibration....there is no room to put in anything other than the stock plastic bar ends.  If you fall down....chances are that whatever grips you have on the bars will be damaged.....they are soft and not very durable when they hit pavement.
