Sounds like you're on a budget. I bought the cheap Chinese knock off of the Kuryakyn iso grips on way for about $35. They are pretty decent. The rubber is a bit soft and piles like an eraser just a tiny bit, but they are cheap, look good, and effective. Mine came with the throttle boss type attachment on the end. Not quite as stretch as true Kuryakyn, but only 1/3 the price. Wink

Is the throttle boss built into those cheap handgrips good for anything? I'd wonder that throttles without stationary end caps and, especially with those throttle bosses could grab the pavement and cause engine acceleration during a crash. But then, it's better than that annoying plastic end cap Tongue

Are most of the grips on the market solid aluminum, or do I need to watch out for plastic? I don't think I want anymore plastic to break on me. Does anyone prefer the knurled metal grips to the rubber for some reason? Throttle boss or no throttle boss?

I'll probably order something today, so it's last call for recommendations.

Having metal grips (like the Kuryaken or the Chinese knock offs) will NOT keep them from breaking.
My bike got blown over in a hail storm, and it busted the Kuryaken Iso Grip. Replaced with the Chinese knock off grip. Work OK, but I need to glue the grip to the throttle sleeve when I get time.
If you go the Chinese route that comes with the throttle sleeve, be aware that you will probably need to adjust the throttle cable (the adjustment by the grip)

Most motorcycle problems are caused by the nut between the seat and the handlebars. Make sure yours isn't too tight or too loose.

Plastic goes bad over time, but aluminum, as long as it is unstressed and not corroded, won't go bad. However, if it is cheap cast aluminum, it will be weaker and will snap before it bends. It all depends on what type of metal, I guess. You don't think metal grips are any stronger than plastic?

Wow! I've been looking and I've found there's a whole big world of grips Shocked

Now its about throttle tubes and slip on grips-- heated grips-- Now I don't know what to do!

The Kuraykyn Iso and its knockoffs have a plastic throttle tube that can break. Is that not true? I gather that some throttle tubes are especially tough, like the Motion Pro Titan throttle tube. These throttle tubes are really made for dirt bikes. I'm not quite sure what will fit and what will not fit the Savage. Do I need to buy self contained grips, or can I get the throttle sleeve and then buy grips separately? What about those end caps? Does it take certain handlebar designs for different end caps?

Dirt bikes have 7/8" handlebars. You need 1" grips. I'm sure you knew that, just confirming for you. FWIW I like the Biltwell and Posh grips. Favorite of customisers and hipsters world-wide .

I've noticed that Harley throttle tubes don't have a groove to fit the switch box. I'm afraid I'd have to grind on the switch box or the throttle tube. It sure is hard to find throttle tubes for metric cruisers (1"). Got me really frustrated. About the best option I could find on EBay was in China, and that would take a while to be shipped.
