I'm glad this worked but I was wondering ,If the circuit from the battery to the starter is always unbroken when the truck is off ,what activates the starter? Thanks!

Some starters have the solenoid built on, not up on the fender. If so, you're able to shoot twelve volts to the battery. You hafta pick the right wire.

I remember when I didn't. The internet is a huge library. I didn't have it available when I was learning.

I think so .there is another positive wire that is activated by the ignition switch which then engages the soleniod, or something like that. Thanks.

Yep. The ignition switch is not big/heavy/strong enough to pass all the current that is required to run the starter. So the ignition switch sends a low current signal to the solenoid - and the solenoid activates a big switch very similar to the old cars that used to have a large switch on the floor that you pushed with your foot. The solenoid can handle all the current that is needed to run the starter....and that is why the solenoid has that big red wire attached to it. (Kinda like having a set of reins and a big work horse attached to a wagon......you tell the horse to do the heavy work of pulling the wagon by using some small leather reins).
