picked up 3 bikes today in a package deal..

I was driving back home from looking @ a Rebel 250 today and I drove past this place with lots stuff setting around. There was a bike setting there so I stopped. Long story short I left with 3 bikes with no titles. Probably sell them for parts. One was a 1973 Honda cb450 twin. Looks to be all there but the key and the original pipes. One is a 1972 Yamaha OHC750 twin with various parts missing. The other is a Yamaha V twin from the late 80's I think. It is missing the whole front end.
They all kick over with decent compression so if nothing else I can part them out. Oh,
and they were cheap cheap cheap.

Well,... don't be coy,... how much?...

I'm currently being tempted,.. by a very ratty Buell Blast, for $450...
Always liked the idea of that powerplant...

I keep talking myself out of it by asking,..
What am I gaining?...... over a Savage?...
...gearing is better... and hydraulic lifters...
.. on the bad side...
Harley/Buell smashed every overstock part in a grossly obscene PR stunt...
I should probably let sleeping dogs lie...  Huh....

Best luck with your purchases...
Looks more interesting and adventurous than mine... Cool...

Serowbot,

Make sure that you are able to change gears on the Blast, even if you have to push the bike to do it.

Many Blasts, and especially Riders Edge bikes have been dropped so often the shifting mechanism gets damaged and you have to split the cases to work on the transmission.

If you get the Blast let me know and I will hook you up with the forums and where to get the parts. My Harley dealer can get me the parts I need in about 4 days.

The Blast is a Blast to ride.

I for one would be doing a title search on the yama 750... and apply for a "lost title".
Worst comes to worse, you could find out it was stolen.....  and if you cannot get it titled, then you could sell pieces parts.

There are some companies that will get you a title for a fee.  They have to advertise the bike publicly and do some other things to give the original owner an opportunity to step up and claim the bike - however that is really not much of a possibility as they advertise in a local paper.  I can't remember if it is Vermont....but one of the states will issue you a title and license plate for that state, then later you can transfer the title to your state.

For the $200 or so fee that the Title Agencies charge....it is most likely easier just to let them do all the paperwork.

I have been tempted by them as well - but nice ones can be purchased so cheaply I don't see much of a reason to buy "ratty".

Here is a very nice one in Cincinnati for $ 1,300.  I betcha this time of year you could probably wave $ 900-$1,000 at the seller and take the bike home.

The thing that keeps me from buying one and riding it for a year or two....is they are most likely really hard to sell (for the same reason they are easy to buy).

I considered the Blast at one point, but they have a really bad reputation for quality

I test rode a '78 KZ750 twin when new, but decided on the SR500 instead.
I wish I had gotten both now.

The 750 pictured above has the designation TX. So I guess it is classified as a 1973 TX 750. The head tube says 1972 but I guess they came out in 1973. In any event I love the lines on this bike alot.
Word has it that 22,xxx were made in 1972 & 73 for release in 1973. Less than 3000 of them hit the streets in 1974; the last year of production. I believe these are USA numbers only.

The TX line included a 500 and a 750 twin, but the line didn't last long. I remember a touring test "shoot-out" back then, and the TX750 didn't fare too well.

BTW, gotta love the Redneck Engineering hard-tail conversion on that TX!!  Wink

1973 & 1974 I think were the only two years. I think the second year they spent all there time fixing the ones they sold the first year and sold very few of them in 1974. The TX couldn't recover so they scrapped it. It shore was a fine looking bike tho.

I actually got the cb450 to fire the other day. Weak spark so I sprung for some new plugs but haven't  got back to it yet.
