That was ugly
11/18/15 at 04:50:03

Was like a two hour tornado yesterday on the island....
Will be days before power in total is restored. My wife couldn't even get home till the chainsaws started to clear the trees from the roads....

Correct Dave. I have heard but not confirmed, 3 deaths. I started my generator, when to get some power cords, right where I was standing a pretty big branch occupied that spot when I returned.
Came across on the ferry to work, our dock has a generator backup, but in the mainland the power was out. We had to pull the ferry in and then hook them up to the ferry to lower the ramp so we could ride off, I tell ya, this thumper makes a great trail bike too  Grin

It is really easy to get used to modern convenience things like electricity, water, heat, fridge......and not remember that a single weather event can take all that way from you and your neighbors.

I am not a "Doomsday Prepper" - but having some equipment like a generator and enough fresh fuel to operate it for a couple of days can be a really good thing to have - otherwise all the food in the fridge and freezer can go bad really quickly.  We generally have enough food around the house that we could eat for a week or so - although the menu items might not be all that interesting at the end of the week.

Glad you and the Mrs. and the boat all got through the storm.

And just think, less than 100 years ago we mostly didn't have those things
now the things we used before we developed those things are even illegal in some cases (outhouse in the city limits? NO)

Fire hazard?

That wa the given reason
I guess you were just supposed to sit in the dark and play with yourself if the power failed and you couldn't afford a battery powered light
After all, folks in low income housing can afford all KINZ of batteries
They even gave her crap about her Scentsy heaters (basically a night light that warmed pretty smelling wax)
I so want a hot tub Cheesy

That's way better than actually owning a hot-tub... Cool...

Now,.. I have buddy with a MC trailer...
...and that's way better than actually owning a bike trailer...
And I'm the one that found him the trailer!... Grin...

Thanks Bot.....

I made this deck, now this might give you a scare.....
With nothing but a thought in my head.  Grin
I laid some headers out, framed it, then tied it together, made steps to the three different levels, set the piers, and I'll be danged if it din't come out sorta like it was suppose to  Grin

Yeah we got green, but you got warmth  Cheesy

I was one of only two bikes on the ferry this morning, 32 degrees and fog so thick I couldn't even see the end of my gut   Embarrassed

Some ice, just rode straight up in the curves, like it was my first time on a bike......

Next week it looks like the gal will sit, as it dips into the twenties and chance of snow.....
Getting too old to chance it anymore, even tho its a trip to ride in the dark, in the snow, its like flying through space!

I had an experience like that on a ride with MMRanch.  It was night, a bit foggy with a light drizzle, and the snow flakes were actually gnats.....thousands and thousands of them coming toward the headlight!  It looked like Star Trek just before they jump into hyperspace!
