If the bulkhead were not fixed correctly, or damage discovered, losing its rear flight surfaces would absolutely cause a plane to fall and disenigrate in air.....
We need Jerry Eichenberger's expertise on this one.
Other than that, if the plane really DID suffer damage as described, fail 14 years later is an awfully long shot on the "structuiral damage" theory.
As in "I have an upset stomach, maybe it was the tamale I had 14 years ago..."
