wet left engine case?

I pulled the timing cover screw from the left case to adjust the valves, and was surprised to see inside was covered with oil. Aren't the electrics in there? I have never seen the electric side of a engine case that ran wet. Without studying a exploded view of the engine could someone tell me if this is normal, or do I have a problem?

Normal. There are some gears in there that the starter engages that need oil, and most motorcycle alternators are designed so they run in oil. The ignition signal coil is also in that cover, also oil proof. Not a problem.

Thank you for the reply. I could not see anything wrong but thought I should check. The cover plug came out surprisingly easy and I had heard some guys had problems getting it out, thought the oil had something to do with it. Thanks again.

I think the electrical contacts are covered in lacquer or something to keep them dry. I might be wrong. It's happened before.

There's no problem that a full tank of gas and a sunny day can't fix!
