the ceramic is the important part.
it's white with a tinge of tan.
maybe perfect to a little lean.
gas mileage?

It lives in a very hostile environment. Any whiter, I'd say lean, but it's not sooty at all, I'd say you nailed it.
What jets? Any mods?

Thanks guys. I wasn't sure because a lot of the plug looked black, but the ceramic bit does look ok. Mileage is hovering close to 50, which I was just recently able to remember my last fill mileage. mods and jets in my signature.
Ive been getting an odd rattle and a lot of gurgle and a smidge of poppage, when the throttle is just open, slowing the bike.
I may have made the mistake of shaving down the tip of my needle, as well as shaving down the spacer. Gonna order a new needle and see if that helps.
Haven't been able to pinpoint the rattle. It stops when i really hold the exhaust, but I can't for the life of me see what it may be rattling against.

No, not rich. Looks alright to me. As the temperature gets cooler you'll definitely want to consider going up. If you ride during fall I'd say get ready to rejet soon. Temps here are changing and I'm starting to get a slightly lean condition on certain days especially late night and early morning. I'll rejet in a two or three weeks to compensate for the climate change.

There wasn't anything in the area to fall in, and I blew it out best I could. Huff and puff style.
Ill see what changes with a new OEM needle jet but what has me worried is I cannot choke without the bike bogging down and dying if I go even one notch out.
The majority of my riding is done at or around 70 mph, does this make a difference?

You ride at a sustained 70 for how long?
Of course each rider has their own personal preference, but if it was me I would opt up to a bigger bike, CC wise, as my bike at that speed is not its comfort zone, nor mine
I am thinking, cruising wise, a bikes optimal would be in the neighborhood of 75 - 80% of throttle, anybody offer any insight into this?

Once up to speed im probably holding at 50-60% throttle. It does get a bit breezy, but my 35 minute commute requires it :/
I thought about something a bit sportier, but after my head got back on straight I realized the savage is really versatile and Im not sure ill ever get rid of it. The chain mod is pretty high on my desired list.
Would sustained high speed riding affect what I should tune my bike to?

The Pilot jet you have is very big, and the Pilot jet controls the mixture at idle.....and also when you pull out the choke. It doesn't surprise me a bit that your bike can't take any choke....it is probably really rich at idle.
Once you get more than about 1/8th of the throttle open...the pilot circuit pretty much shuts down and the flow of fuel comes from the needle jet and main jet.
With the bike fully warmed up.....set the idle speed down just a little low and then adjust the idle fuel mixture screw so the bike runs the smoothest. Then shut the bike off and turn the mixture screw in until it lightly seats.....if you turned it less than 1.5 turns you should install a smaller pilot jet.

My best results come with a #50 pilot jet, #150 main and 2 washers on the needle.
