So, that wear,,, if it was sitting on the stand, idling, which end of the cam is the high end?

This is a bit strange, it wouldn't let me reply to the original thread.

Dave, this is regarding the pic you have.  Does that compare the worn rockers to how they should look?

Best regards,

The "Bringing a bike out of Storage" thread was possibly going to morph into a Technical Article.....so the thread is locked so it is more of a documentary than a discussion thread.  I hadn't really expected there to be extensive repairs needed....just cleanup and a battery replacement.  I mean...how bad can a bike be when it only has 3,900 miles on it?

Here is the discussion thread that was started.

And yes, the cam lobe that is worn is on the uphill side of the engine when the bike is leaned over on the side stand.  I will have to quiz the previous owners to see if either of them let the bike idle while parked on the side stand for extended periods.

And yes...that is a badly worn rocker.  Mildly worn ones will have small divots and badly worn ones will be worse.  One member on this forum had a rocker that was completely worn and the pad was completely gone.

I'm thinking hitting the start button leaned over is the primary factor, coupled with low lube at idle.
The damage drives home the point I made several days ago
