Clutch Engine switch? 1995 to 2003?
09/19/15 at 13:24:16

Hello, I have two Suzuki Savage Engines. A 2003 Suzuki Savage engine which was put onto my 1995 Suzuki Savage bike, and the original engine which blew. The 2003 engine has a clutch that's been going out, but the 1995 one was a perfect shift. Would I perhaps be able to switch clutches?

To the best of my knowledge, yes.
The Suzuki manual doesn't mention any changes to the clutch.
Anyway you have both engines so what do you have to lose? Smiley

P.S. I believe the clutch can be removed as an assembly which makes it easier.

If that's the case, that's the greatest news I have had in a while. I'm terrible at all this clutch work.

yes you should be able to.
as far as I know only the '86 is different.

before you pull the clutch pack off the spindle, put the center back in and at least 2 of the springs.  That'll hold everything in place.

be careful of the oil pump gear and the drive pin.  easy to loose the pin and easy to put the gear on backwards.

You shouldn't be using car oil for a motorcycle with a wet clutch, drain that oil and go to Walmart to pick up a jug of shell rotella T.
-end of story

Look at the chain tensioner, hopefully you have an extended one in already

Rotella is too thin where I live for summer use. Castrol GTX 20W50, in the 03 Savage and the 99 1500 Intruder (118K miles on it), with no clutch problems. When I bought my 98 Savage brand new, the mechanic said to run 20W50 in the summer and 15W40 in the winter. Mississippi Gulf Coast for that bike, and the same holds true here in SW TN. 15W40 works alright in the summer, but the engine is noisy, even with the Versy tensioner. 20W50 it is quiet. 10W40 is a losing proposition in my bike, go 100 miles, add 2 quarts. Synthetic is even worse, go 40 miles, add 2 quarts.
