The stock headlight it not all that great....too small of a lens and the reflector is not great at making a good light pattern.

I have a Silverstar in mine, and it works better (especially in my 8" headlight)....and is a worthwhile upgrade.  I only get about a year (12,000 miles) out of these bulbs in my car - but that is 3-4 years worth of riding in the bike.  There supposedly is a heavy duty version of this light made for motorcycles - but it is hard to find.
