Oil pressure/oil pump on Savage.
09/13/15 at 09:55:34

It is a known problem that Savage has bad oil pressure when the engine is warm, and this can result in much damage to the engine head. Does anyone know about Suzuki has ever done anything to reduce this problem? such as extra lubrication to the valve house. (I think that Yamaha XT 500 has such a solution.) Or has it come an oil pump on the newer Savage / S40 so is better than the old?

Hope someone can give me an answer on this or tell where I can find out.

No changes have been made. They did provide a reservoir for oil to settle in below the cam, so, at start-up the lobes get a bath before slapping the rockers. Probably better to get on, stand it up, then start, rather than on the understand. And, keep the idle right, even if it means fiddling with the adjustment every day. I alwAys had to raise it when cold, then gradually drop it as it warmed. I SAY always,  really, only after I did the cam, exhaust and jets... ahhh, but what a small price to pay for the fun of doing it and the results..

Known problem?

There's no problem that a full tank of gas and a sunny day can't fix!

It's a known problem that if you idle it too low, below 1000 rpms you'll have less than 5 psi.

But you'll have over 50 psi at superslab speeds.

moral of this story... don't idle on the freeway.

Probably not a good idea! Wink Grin

ANY engine will starve for oil without the proper idle speed. It's nothing new.
