Kick Stand Switch

So my motorcycle recently started to stall/die after I would switch it into 1st gear and attempt to start riding. No matter what I do, it happens every time. I am thinking it has to do with the Kick Stand switch. I have seen that this is a common issue with these bikes, but looking through the site, I don't see a lot of information on a fix with pictures. I am not extremely mechanically savy, but am learning. That being said, has anyone had this issue that could help me out? Maybe with a few pictures of where I can find this? Anything is helpful. Thanks.

Just find the 2 wires at the kick stand and tie them together. Don't tell the bike and it will never know!

1) have a look at your kickstand and find the 2 wires coming off it. Mine were both green and black/white, other years could be different.
2) cut them off short at the kickstand. (feels good already?)
3) follow the two wires up to where they are connected to the rest of the wiring harness.
4) cut them off just beyond the connector and solder them together.

Being new to riding, having the kickstand safety is a good thing. Taking off with it down might put you down.

Thanks for the help. I will look at it tomorrow afternoon.

And yes I know you have to have the kickstand up before you put it in gear. I know I am new to riding but I do know how they operate. I am just still learning how to work on them. Now if I didn't want to just bypass the safety, how hard/easy is it to replace the switch? Thanks.

So after some digging, I am not thinking it's the kick stand switch anymore. Today I left the kickstand down and kicked it into 1st gear, and with the clutch still pulled in the bike died.

With the kick stand up, I can shift into first and slowly release the clutch and give it some throttle. When I fully release the clutch the bike skids to a stop, the brakes lock up and it dies.

Any thoughts???

StAnd down, in gear, it dies.
Put the stand up, fire it up, in neutral, put it in gear, rev it a couple of times, not
Wind it out
Just goose it a bit. Now, gas it and ease off the clutch.

Hmmm.

It stays running in 1st with kickstand up, clutch in:: your kickstand switch is ok.

It rolls in neutral :: brakes aren't locked all the time

Can you give a little more description; when you say "brakes lock up and it dies" - how do you know it's the brakes ?

Am i correct that bike was running ok before? how recently was it ok?

I guess the brakes don't really "lock up". Since it's in 1st gear, it doesn't roll (unless clutch is pulled in).

It was working fine when I bought it. I replaced the spark plug, oil, oil filter, and cleaned the carb. The bike still worked fine. Then one day while I was riding it starting dying at stop signs. Then while riding it was sputtering and would die while riding.

Now when I put it in first and attempt to ride it dies on me, as if the engine cut off switch was hit (it's not being hit, just how it acts).

Talking with some guys at my work, they think it could possibly be a compression issue?

I haven't had time to get out and work on it the past few days (with work and classes), planning on taking another stab at it tomorrow or this weekend.
