Just to annoy Dave, doesn't a simple wash enhance a poor little Savage, LS 650 or S40 and add dollars Euro's, Pounds whatever to it's value?

Sure......a simple wash can do wonders on a dirty bike.
Just don't put it away wet or it will go down in value when the electrical connectors corrode and it won't start anymore!
Dry it off really well, and then go for a ride to warm up the engine and get the water blown off. Use the rear brake a few times to get the water out.....when on the side stand the brake drum is leaning the wrong way for the water to drain out.

I woulda' been tempted to go to New Zealand and throw a few stones at JC's windows while he is sleeping - but my Passport is expired!

If you are going to wash a savage stand it up off the kick stand when done. The left side cover will hold about 2 ounces of water which rusts the inside of the cover in under a day. Nothing like washing the bike then coming back the next day and dumping rusty water all over the side of your nice clean bike.
A 1/4 inch drill took care of that problem.

Well that might explain why the bike I just bought is so rusty behind the cover.
If someone had a really accurate scale, it would be interesting to weigh a bike, then wash and dry it, then push it onto the scale and see how much heavier it is as a result of all water trapped in the areas you can't get to.

Hope the back taxes aren't to steep.

Yep....Could be a deal killer and turn it from being a "fixer upper" and make the bike suitable only for parts. If the engine is good........it still won't be a bad $ 500 investment.

Isn't it wonderful you have resolved the back tax issue and the engine is free. Can't wait for the next gripping instalment.

Ah what a gripping instalment about the resuscitated Savage. With respect Dave, perhaps leave carb mods for later and see if it starts easily.

I just started it about 10 minutes ago....Woo Hoo! The engine sounds really good - nice and quiet and no unusual engine noises. The stock muffler is incredibly effective...it sure doesn't make much noise.
However....the carb needs a good cleaning. The bike is just not getting enough fuel and although it idles fine and will rev up after being warmed up with the fuel enrichment valve (choke) on...it does some coughing and spitting in the process.

Good thing you looked, clean the rest of the carb and enjoy, or sell to a lucky new owner.
