Rear Brake Light
08/22/15 at 02:39:45

My Rear break light is always on,  if I use my foot brake and I don't put my foot underneath it (like you do when you shift gear) and push it back up.  So do you think i need to change the spring on the picture or maybe it can be something else?

Edit: Almost forgot, it's a 1986 model Wink

I'd suspect the return spring by the pedal up front more than the switch spring.

The return spring is to the top right in this image:

If it isn't faulty and gripping the pedal, then try dismounting the pedal and greasing the shaft it runs on, give it a good workout and see if that helps. On a '86 model its more than likely that any grease applied when new would have dried out by now.

It most likely is corroded or dry and needs lubed somewhere in the system.  The front brake pedal could be sticking, the cable could be sticking, or even the brake cam shaft in the rear brake hub.

Start by disconnecting the cable at the brake lever at the rear wheel, and then see what is bound up.  I would recommend you take all the moving parts off, clean them and lube them.
