Just because some one did it back when doesn't mean it's a good idea
Art.....they tennis balls were removed before the engine was started. The tennis balls just kept stuff from falling (or people from throwing stuff) down the holes when the engine wasn't running.
True for the most part, I did see a few being run that way though
most of them were just show cars anyway, they were run long enough to get on and off the trailer
