Check your tire pressure regularly!

On the side of the bike is a sticker that will tell you where to set your tire pressure. For solo riding it specifies 29 psi front and 34 psi rear. My front was at 24 psi (5 lbs low) but the back was 22 psi (12 lbs low)! The rear was a little squirrely (at 22 psi) but I assumed my adjusters weren't set properly. I had the rear tire off the night before.

After adjusting the rear tire nothing really changed in the way the bike handled. The tire "looked" good as far as the air is concerned so I didn't worry about it. On a whim I checked the pressure a day later and it was very low. After pumping up both tires the difference is night and day. It feels much more stable in turns.

Do like aircraft pilots do and do a "pre-flight" check before each ride. It helps to keep the rubber side down!

There's no problem that a full tank of gas and a sunny day can't fix!

Tires are part of the T-CLOCS inspection list that the MSF recommends. They have a check list in the "Quick Tips" section of http://www.msf-usa.org/library.aspx.  It's very comprehensive but it's worth a look.

Might pay to have one of those right angle valve stem adapters to help doing the rear tyre.

Is monthly regular enough?

I don't seem to lose pressure very quickly on mine.  Over the 4-5 months in the winter they can lose a bunch.

I have one on the rear tire but, stupid me, I pointed it the wrong way. It still works better than a straight stem but you have to work a little harder than if I pointed it the "right" way.

I'd say monthly is fine unless you know you are losing air. I hadn't checked mine in quite some time. Probably at least before winter hit. I know, I know...lazy! At least I admitted it!  Tongue

Riding on a low tire causes stress and an uneasy feeling. That stress will cause hair loss. Check your tires or buy Rogaine. Your choice!

Ever wonder why they don't make a 90 degree tire pressure gage? Always 45 degrees never 90 degrees, I been looking for one for ever in the local stores and auto part places.

You can get 90 degree bend adapters for your valve stems: http://www.amazon.com/Wheel-Masters-802990-Degree-Extender/dp/B0002F668I/ref=...  Have you thought about those?
