Ticking..
06/30/15 at 18:15:15
Trying to keep this in separate threads. Is a slight tick normal operation? It is at lower RPM but goes away at higher RPM. For instance, in 3rd it will happen at 25 MPH but go away when I hit 30 MPH. It is strange I can hear it when I have the helm on, but if I look down (briefly) it seems to be really faint. Almost like it is reverberating in my helm.
Probably sounds a bit weird. Bike has 9k miles and has never been adjusted.
Thx

They really should be adjusted about every 4000 miles.... pretty simple to do

Before the tank comes off, prepRe a place to set it. Dont wanna crimp the speedo cable.
Blow iut around the plug before you decide to pull it. Dont need to for valves..
Take the chosen blades out of the pack. I bentmine to Z shape.
Start early, cold engine.
Its not technically difficult, but, its a procedure..

And.......the adjustment most likely will be minor. You will barely move the adjusters as you will only be moving things a thousandth or two.
If you find yourself backing the adjusters off a bunch....you are doing it wrong and most likely have the engine at the wrong TDC (the crankshaft rotates twice for each cam revolution). When you get to where you believe the correct TDC is.....try and wiggle each rocker arm and you should feel a slight amount of movement in both the intake and exhaust rockers - if not you most likely are on the point where the cam is closing the exhaust valves and opening the intake valves (valve overlap)....and you need to turn the crankshaft 360 degrees to get to the correct TDC.

It makes me nervous, I think I will take it to someone to have it done.

They'll happily overcharge you to do it. I was really nervous the first time I ever did it but it was so much easier than my imagination lead me to believe it would be. Now it's just routine maintenance...just saying.
