Your top speed
06/20/15 at 06:26:14

Now i know our bikes are more about acceleration than top speed but Whats the fastest you've ever gone on your savage/s40? Anyone ever do the ton? Post your top speeds and mods.

My top speed is 95mph by the speedometer before jetting and mods with an exhaust and drag bars no risers.

On a side note, this is open to debate, im guessing that with an extended swingarm/hardtail, chain conversion with slight gearing change, cam, exhaust, jetting, this big single would spank my buddy's 883 sportster bobber on the highway (up to 120mph) relatively stock, pipes filter jetting.

My top speed stock and lying on the tank was 95, dropping to 90 on a grade
There's a 10% error, so probably that's actually 90 and 85 respectively
with the new 140/90 rear tire my speedo is supposed to be correct, and I topped out at an indicated 85 with a big windshield on it
I haven't retested since Versy twiddled my carb on the Dragon trip

There's no way she'll spank a Sporty without engine mods, we're at a 23 HP disadvavantage, essentially our bike has ,2/3 the HP of an 883 (very rough estimate

S40; 30 HP, 400lb, .075 hp / lb
Sporty: 53 hp, 548lb .096 hp / lb

getting 40 hp out of an S40 would be a stretch

101.1 mph..........Ton Up!  Trail Tech Vapor speedometer correctly calibrated.

Wiseco 95mm, Stage 1 Cam, Mikuni VM34, Head Porting, Custom Muffler, Big foam air filter.

NOTE:  The 7,480 maximum rpm is not correct....my tach would spike for some reason and give false readings.

Beast's carb was set up on a stock bike with a trapp... 95 uphill on the bottom third before I had traffic which came up a lot quicker than I expected.   Cool
I need a steeper hill to test beast.  Huh

I will try to keep her under a ton on the street, not sure how fast my angel can fly.
But I know leo can.

One day, temp and humidity were good, on a cement section of I20 ,
Tucked in tight, it made it past the line. Never got within ten MPH of it again. Didn't really try, honestly  , 80, 85, thats enough for me ,,

most of the time I like to stay around 55 - 60
80 is fun for a while, but then the vibes get tiring

I've had it up to 85 before. It might have had a little left but not much. I usually try to keep it a lot closer to the speed limit, though.

If you aren't comfortable with it, don't push it.
I was recovering from a long illness, my wife bought me a Savage.
I was excited, right up until I sat on it, running, gonna ride home.
I almost couldn't. I had ridden bikes, but not for years.
I stayed on back roads for a coupla months before getting into just easy traffic. Don't let what you think others expect of you to affect your decisions. Empty parking lots, empty , uncapped, water bottles, dodging ,
low speed turns, practicing using brakes together,,

Stock bike will probably top out between 87 and 92. Unsure of how a hard tail would feel at these speeds, although it was done from the 1910's to the 1940's

87.7 gps indicated.  I wasn't trying to break a speed record, I was just in a hurry.  I haven't done a top speed run yet.  I'm not sure I'm even inclined to put it to the test.  I will say that 87.7 wasn't terribly uncomfortable and there was plenty left.  I would expect I can get into the upper 90's but I highly doubt mine can break the ton...at least not with me riding.  I weigh 200 lbs.

Only basic improvements have been done. Muffler, filter, jets...Will do the rear tire on the next change, but I don't think it would make up the difference.

I've had my 87 up to 87... just for giggles. Well, that and I was trying to beat a nasty looking thunderstorm home. Rolled in the driveway and it started sprinkling. Opened the garage, backed her in and shut her down as the sky opened up.

She still has some more left... how much I'm not sure, but at least a little bit. But most of the time I run 55-60 and we're both happy. Wind buffet at 70+ gets tiring in a hurry.

the 5 speed bikes will probably go faster in 4th than 5th, but still 55-65 is more comfortable
it's a cruiser, not a sportbike (unless you Cafe it  Grin)
A windshield makes 70 much more tolerable though

Uphill, or into a strong wind, fourth might be faster.
Or, hauling someone North of three hundred pounds and effectively pushing half a sheet of plywood down the road.
Make for an interesting dyno test.
