plugging petcock hole

Hey gang,
Need to POR15 seal my tank. What is a good way to block off the oval petcock hole? Thanks!

I'm not sure why you would need to but maybe just plain ol' tape? Do you need to plug the hole for some reason?

There's no problem that a full tank of gas and a sunny day can't fix!

Didn't know if the sealer would eat through the tape glue or contaminate it. Gotta plug it so I can slosh it around. It takes hours to do and about 4 days to dry! Shocked

So it doesn't run out when I slosh it over to cover that area. Smiley

You really want something a bit more secure than tape....although I do use really good duct tape over the fuel filler hole, and hold my hand tightly over the tape when I turn the tank upside down to coat the top of the tank.

For the petcock hole, take a flat piece of metal, drill the petcock mounting holes in it, then cut a small piece of rubber or cardboard for a gasket.

Here is one I made for the S65 Honda....which only has 1 screw hole.  It is a piece of flat metal bar, a piece of rubber roofing, and a screw.  You will need to make one with 2 screw holes.

Wow! I was thinking just pour it in, slosh it a little bit, pour out the excess an let it dry.   Shocked

The part of the process where you slosh the stuff around does only take 15 minutes, and then when you dump it out it does take a while to get the excess out the tiny drain hole.......the drools and puddles might be an inch wide when they flow past the small petcock hole. You have to keep moving the tank back and forth a bit to keep getting the excess drained out.  You can't drain anything out of the gas cap hole as the lip prevents it from draining out. Finally when you are tired of moving it around and have as much excess out as you can....I tip the tank so stuff drains away from the petcock hole and flows to the front or back of the tank.  You need to clean off any drips or dripples on the petcock mounting surface and oval hole where the tubes slide into the tank.

Then you have to let it cure....adding an air source helps.  A fan set up to blow air through the petcock hole....or an aquarium pump helps to speed things up a bit.

Use a factory petcock as your plug. That's why you keep your old one when you convert to a proper mechanical version, like the Raptor or VS800 units.

Use RedKote or Por-15 as your liner. Kreem is junk. I know you have right material already, but new riders/wrenches are always falling for Kreem's advertising lies.

It's going pretty smoothly so far. I have it propped up and it's draining. I'll swing it around in a little bit. I'll post a pic on my blog later tonight. Smiley Thanks for the tips gang!
