Squeaking rear brakes
06/13/15 at 13:30:09
My rear brakes are squeaking, not every time, but more often than makes me comfortable.... but the rear brake indicator is saying that I have a lot of brake pad left. Anyone know how reliable the back break indicator is? I really don't want to remove my back tire until I absolutely have to.

My rear brakes squeal too. But only when I'm on them fairly hard. This is with less than 200 miles on my new tires. And yes, I checked the brakes thoroughly when I had every thing apart replacing the tires. ( I just turned 5K on the odometer of my '06.)

Common issue.
Grinding the leading edgesof the shoes has been helpful.
My rear locked up with minimal pedal pressure.
Grooves ground across shoes to decrease area in contact with
drum, angled leading edges, seriously decreased noise and made the
Brake more useable.

I just put new shoes on mine literally 20 miles ago, and first time I hit the rears they squeak.

See above..
Ive been around a while. Some of these guys I defer to, on certain things.
I'm the only one who went as faras I did. Results were well worth the efforts. My tire would skid with little pressure on the pedal. After grinding grooves across and taking edges off I could Push on the pedal and lock it up, but I could use it and not slide the tire. Real light pressure and sometimes it'd still squeal, but not nearly as bad.

Thanks justin_o_guy2, I'll give it a shot. I think I know what you're talking about. Still kind of new to this, so I may ask more questions after I get the wheel off.
