Hi all, new to the forum and the savage / s40. I am looking for any help possible. I was riding along came into an "s" curve. Thier was some grass/dirt in the road, lost control and ended up dumping the bike(05 s40). Now the bike won't even try to start . the lights come on, blinkers work, hazards work brakes work but that's it. No clicks . nothing. Please help.and yes I have tested the fuses and they are good.

You need to make sure the engine "stop" switch is in the run mode, and then check the safety clutch and kickstand switch to see if they are damaged or a wire came loose.  Check the battery connections, voltage and make sure it has 12.5 volts and was not damaged during the dismount.

You can bypass the clutch switch temporarily by pulling the wires on the bottom of the clutch lever and putting a jumper wire between the terminals, same for the sidestand switch which has a connector on the frame just above the front pulley (behind the body side cover).

Does the neutral light still function?

Did check a lot if stuff last night . Is the clutch safety and neutral safety the same? if so I checked that and continuity test good on it. But I did forget the kick stand switch. But shouldn't it still try if the bike is in neutral?

I am at work now. When at home in will check out the wires not to sure on the bypass stuff. Electrical isn't my strong suit. And the neutral light functions as it should and shuts off if I shift it into gear.

yes if the kickstand is up. no if down.

if you got a voltmeter, pull the clutch safety switch connector.
With the VOM on vdc, connect the black lead to a good ground.
and stick the red probe in one of the sockets of the connector.
with ignition on, push the start button and you should read 12 on the meter.  if not, try the other.
if not there's your problem.  check both control connectors.
if still no joy, pull the right control connector.  look for the yellow/green and orange/white wires, with the VOM on ohms, put the probes on those 2 wires and press the start button.

It did before the accident......maybe not after.

The clutch switch is on the bottom of the clutch lever perch, the neutral switch is in the right side of the engine case and there is a blue wire up the right side of the frame and a connector is located beneath the fuel tank, and the kickstand safety switch is on the kickstand mount with the connector just above the pulley on the frame behind the painted cover.

My guess would first be to try the clutch safety....as it is definitely something that keeps the starter from working.  Also a loose connector to the decompression solenoid, loose connector to the starter relay, etc. could all cause the same problem.

Ok.... Thank you guys both things I didn't check. Dumped the bike on the right side son I check everything I could think of on that side. As soon as I get home I will be checking the clutch and kickstand.

Thank you guys. Bypassed the clutch safety and it fired right up. Not on to the next issues.
