Making RYCA Muffler quiet with...a table leg
05/20/15 at 02:18:33

When I finally assembled my bobber and began riding along the streets of my city, it was loud as hell.

So, I had to do something, to make it sound a little quiet.
First of all, the pipe was disassembled and properly stuffed with stone wool.
It made the sound tone deeper when idling, but at higher rpms I still was like an "1% outlaw biker"   Grin

The solution was found in the nearest DIY shop for less than 3$.
I bought table leg, made 4 slots at the end and bent them inside with a hammer to close the end of the pipe. After that I drilled 8 holes 8 mm in diameter and put this into the muffler . Fixed with 4 rivets. Voila, the sound is perfect (for me).
May be this modification affects engine perfomance, but my bike is running 145 km/hour top speed (GPS) and it's enough for me.

Tip: If you want to do the same with your silencer, start with holes of smaller diameter and fix everything with screws. When you adjust the sound to your taste, use rivets.

I hope, this will be useful to somebody.

That is a great solution.....to an overly loud muffler issue.

Good Job!

I wonder if we can get those legs here in the US?

Thanks for compliments! Table leg is made in china, so, I think, this, or something similar can be found everywhere.

Or guys from RYCA will read my post and soon we will see "DB-killer for reverse cone muffler" on their site  Grin

So....a table leg is a better option than the "crumb cup" sink strainer that is currently being used?

Who woulda' thunk it?

Sink strainer is in its place. That's why my db-killer is so short.
The muffler comes with one sink strainer in stock. But Ryca suggest to add one more together with "muffler pack".
I use table leg instead of it. Because it's cheap and adjustable in sound  Smiley

Nice DIY mod! I alsways hated how the reverse cone sounded even with the crumb cup and packing.

Lots of stuff can be silenced with a table leg.

I think I'm scary enough to the good folks here already.
But it's really nice to see someone understand the complex implications of the statement,,,
Actually, exhaust insert wouldn't have been my first thought.
I'm impressed with the use, repurposing, I dig that.
