Just got them in 5 hours ago for a cheap starting pair of tired to replace the IRC on the bike. Iv read many good reviews but do you all have any positive or negative feedback on these? I dont take turns that fast because frankly i make up all but 50lbs of the gvwr. So a passenger is an unsafe venture to have. I do how ever ride in the rain. And I will ride in sleet and heavy downpours. Only thing i have an issue with is the rain coming around my glasses to try and assassinate my eyeball. But yeah i dont so fast turns, i ride around 60 mph average and im looking for mileage and wont kill me in rain(I do less than recomended speed for turns in the rain) did i make a good decision and if not please be honest and show me the errors of my way

I have the 712 on the back of my S40, and while I'm no speed demon either, I'm very pleased, wet traction seems good, the ride seems good, and I'm not worried a bit about this tire
the only regret I have is buying the 140/90, instead of the 130/90, which would likely tip in a bit easier (fatter tires resist tip in more)
IMO you made a good choice

Gender:	Re: Shinko 712 Reply #2 - 05/19/15 at 22:05:00 Awesome. and I figured I would have good wet trac. the ones in the bike right now (original IRC's from 2000) the rear tire is Fully bald except the outer edges and this could be shameful to say but with me and the bike together weighting in the 725lbs range... I cut straight through standing water without stability issues.

JMHO...
New tires are always better than old ones... (old tires suck!)...
After 50 miles, (to wear off the mold release) new tires will have more stick'em and a better profile... and they will feel better..

I like the look of Shinko's.... and they are a lightweight tire...
Any new tire will perform better than an old one....
Shinko's are a good tire... as are many others...
If you ride a lot of miles per year,... you might want to pay more for a mileage tire... They will gain mileage in one of two ways...
Harder compound (less traction)... or deeper tread (more weight)...
If you ride enough to accept the trade-offs, you should buy a higher mileage tire...
There is no right or wrong,... just weighing of the positives and negatives based on your riding style...

If you ride lots'a miles down straight highway... you want a mileage tire...
If you ride when you can,... and you don't chalk up 10k miles a year...
go cheaper...
Cheng Shin is about as cheap as you can go...
And they are still good tires...
They will balance easier than any other brand... and that's because they they have less rubber than most...
They won't last too many miles.... but that's okay, if you don't ride much...

You want to buy the best tire for for you... and how much you ride, and how hard you ride...
Try to buy a tire that you will wear out in 4 to 6 years...
Less if you ride hard,..more if you ride easy...

I like Shinko's because they suit my riding...
Not a whole lot, but brisk...
Shinko, bought out Yokohama,.. and uses their racing profile molds...
Good tires, with a nice tread, for a reasonable price...
Other tires will give more miles,... or better performance...
At a price of weight, stick, mileage, etc...

All tires made today,.. are pretty darn good...
You choose the the one's that you will use up to the wear bars in 4 to 5 years... if you buy too much,.. you waste your money, and will end up riding dry dead tires with no traction left... if you under spend, they will be bald and still fresh...
If you are new to riding, and don't know how much you'll ride... go cheaper...
You can't go wrong with fresh tread...

... and buy the ones you think are pretty... ('cause you will live with them for 4 to 5 years)...

All that said,... I like my Shinko 712... medium wear, light weight, and good stick,.. pretty profile...
I'm guessing 12k in 4 years... at 3 or 4 k miles per year... ( and that's just a guess... )...

Racist tire makers and stuff. I will find out how I feel about these tires once my clutch cable comes in monday or tuesday

Well it's kinda' a "supply and demand" thingy. Tire sizes that they only sell a limited number of black ones......they know they will likely sell very few of them (if any) with whitewalls. It is just not a good investment for them to makes the tires and have them sit in a warehouse unsold.

Unfortunately the Cafe' bike folks have a similar problem in a way.

The "performance" tires that they build for sport bikes don't come in the sizes for 18" rims. Thankfully a couple of companies are making a tire that works well.....although it is not cutting edge.

I suppose the only good news out of this is that I did talk to one sport bike fellow who goes through 3 sets of tires a year....while I most likely go through a set every 3 years.
