The Savage is not so popular that the aftermarket manufacturers are making a lot of stuff for it. One guy found one that he was able to get mounted, but it cracked at some welds, IIRC. There was a guy who built a good stout one, might be a pic or two around, but, site search and I don't really talk much.
Someone may pop in and have better news, though, so, don't lose hope.

You can also find them on Ebay, JC Whitney, motoport, and other sites
The one motoport sells is a factory accessory

I think you have to have the sissy bar first though

I have the Motosport one.  It's cute. Less than 1/8" thick steel.  Not a trunk bracket.  You can carry a bag on the rear seat and it can fit behind the back rest on the rack with several bungee cords. Gotta take the back rest off to install it.  If/when I need more I'll look around for - or make a stronger brackets.  I didn't send it back.

But it is cute.

Honestly if my bike had a sissy bar, I'd just get one of those big backpack looking this that straps to the sissy and sits on the back seat, that should carry anything you really need to carry on a bike

I didn't want to add the backrest and luggage rack (too cheap I guess), so I use the Saddleman 850 roll bag that sits right on top of the passenger seat.  The straps go neatly under that section of the seat and are almost invisible.  So far so good, it holds my lunchbox, gloves, hat and sunglasses and still has a little room left.  The only issue is lifting your leg up that extra foot to clear the bag when you mount or dismount.  But it is a cheap alternative, looks good, and you can get them anywhere, even on Amazon.

I like more storage than that lol
as far as step over, mounting like it's a horse can help there, or stepping over the tank instead
the Yamahammer has to be mounted like a horse, due to height and a big backrest

I have that rack on my savage.  It looks great and yeah you need the sissy bar to mount it... Also have to remove the rear seat or seat (S40).

It really depends on what you want or what your fabrication skills are....

Does your bike have a tall or short sissy bar?

My wife's savage had a short sissy, I made a taller one using 3/4" aluminum square tubing.

Or if you are really good, just buy up an old Harley tour pack, along with the mounts for them, then fab a couple of "L" brackets (for the rear), remove your rear seat and attach the tour pack... like I did on my savage.

Unfortunately - old_rider passed away a couple years ago.

We remember him fondly.....in addition to posting on a regular basis he also came to several of our group rides.  One time he rode up from Florida, stayed a day, then rode back to Florida the next day!
