performace with Sportbike exhaust?

I love the look of under-slung exhausts, and am going that route with my savage build.

I'm going to (attempt) make my own header from 1.5 inch, so that will be a custom job to start with.

Since the first thing all the squid sport bike riders do is rip off their factor exhausts for something else, ebay has an endless supply.

Was thinking something like the photo, not exactly, but you get the idea.

Any thoughts on performance?

From a performance standpoint.....if it has some form of baffle it will be better than anything that is just straight through.

If your engine has the stock piston,head, cam, carb....you are not going to get much of any improvement from just a muffler change.

It could change the sound and look however...which isn't always bad as long is it isn't too loud.

This is too big to fit under the bike - but would be fine in the normal position and stock header pipe. I bought a GSXR 1,000 muffler for $ 50 that was a pristine take off and was going to try it....unfortunately they got lazy with the packing and it arrived damaged, so I sent it back. The thin aluminum end caps on those mufflers are easily damaged. The end cap is just held on with rivets and is only cosmetic and can be easily removed if you don't want the shiny look....or could be painted. It is anodized and would not be easy to fix and dents or scratches. The 2013/2014 muffler is a nice sized muffler, looks like it would work well, and cutting and welding an proper sized pipe on the front would be pretty easy. Here are a few that aren't great deals.....I have seen better ones available occasionally.

In cold weather, I've heard that it's possible for the cold air to pass through and cause an exhaust valve to warp if the pipe is short enough to not heat the air enough. I don't know if it's possible.

Why not both? Stick a Dyna on it, tune the carb, when the cam chain needs done, stick a cam in,
And if it's not loud enough, record a loud bike on your phone and get some ear buds, or, stick an amplifier and a big speaker on it and it can be obnoxiously loud when there are no cops around, just flip a switch and let everyone enjoy the sound of a Motor.
