Wife overheated bike while deployed. What next?
05/12/15 at 16:57:34

Hey guys. This past year, I was in Afghanistan. My wife has a 2009 Suzuki Boulevard S40 and she had gone out to start the bike up. Well, she received a phone call, got distracted, and returned to find white smoke bellowing out from under the gas tank. When I returned home, the bike would turn over and idle for about 2 seconds, then die. I have done a little bit of research, but want to make sure I don't miss anything.

I know for sure that I need to replace the little oil plug thingy in the top of the engine and the headgasket. What other things should I look at? Is the bike toast? Should I just replace the engine?

Thanks for reading and I hope it isn't too expensive to fix.

Well, that could be bad... but,.. it might not be...
It may have just gotten overheated enough to cook that oil that had leaked from the head plug,... and the poor starting/running caused by an unrelated issue of stale gas...(usually, an idling engine that overheats will just die before seizing)...

Give it a fresh oil change,... drain the tank, and carb float bowl,.. and put fresh gas in it...

Then, see what you got... Huh...
JMHO,.. that's what I'd do ...

You may have cooked a few wires.

There's no problem that a full tank of gas and a sunny day can't fix!

Clean the carb, inspect the wires, change the plug, put fresh fuel in and change the oil. See if that makes it any better.  Depending on where the idle is set, the bike could have experienced oil starvation due to low pressure.
