hardtail with 21's front an back
05/03/15 at 11:53:10
Can anyone share any insight if 21 inch front and rear wheels would fit?
I am more asking for the front....
Pretty sure the voodoo vintage hardtail can fit one.
Would definitely make for a sweet hardtail....

Yeah.they're doing up to 23s on both ends.Flat track style.
If you want an easy swap...Put an Intruder 800 frontend on.Comes with a 21" wheel and bolts right on.

An 18 just fits on the stock swing arm. Any bigger and you're looking at a custom swing arm.

right, but is the hardtail based on the stock frame? if so, it may have the same limitations

This would be with a voodo vintage or similar hardtail
I think it would all work out in the back.
The question is does a 21 inch wheel run the risk of hitting the bottom fork tree, during suspension actuation?

Great blog about the XS650 build, very thorough, thanks for posting the link.
The difference between a 21" and a 19" front wheel is only 1", if it were measured between the spindle and the bottom yoke/fork tree, ie. the radius rather than the diameter of the wheel. I believe that if the forks were under maximum pressure (bottomed out) there would be
at least
a 1" gap between the two, so no worries there

I kinda like the idea of a smaller rear tire with a taller front tire making it lean to the rear and give a laid back ride without changing the angle of the tree.
But that's just me....

I have a VV hardtail currently installed and am in the process of having wheels built. I'm going for an 18"/21" set up. I will say based on my experience with this hardtail that if you put a 21" on the back it will come very far up in the frame and there won't be practical room for a usable cross member to mount a spring mounted type seat to. You would most likely have to engineer some type of seat mounted directly to the fender. Shouldn't be a problem as its a custom application and everything about it will require some adjusting/ customizing, Just keep in mind things are pretty tight in there.
