Play in rear pulley.
04/30/15 at 09:42:44

I was checking my belt and noticed some play in the rear pulley that I hadn't noticed before. The pulley is solidly mounted, but the part it mounts to has some give in it. I can move the top of the pulley about 1/8th of an inch total from side to side with a definitive stop each direction. Is this normal or is it probably a result of something going wrong? I did have a new tire installed by my local shop a few hundred miles ago.

It is normal for the pulley to rotate a bit back and forth against the bumpers.

And it is also somewhat normal for it to "wobble" when you pull on the top/bottom or front/back.  There is only a single bearing that supports the pulley hub.

Here is a thread that discusses some options.

Mine wobbled a bit as well.  I did Dave's mod and it helped a lot.   Smiley

Best regards,

Found out a 06, ‘wobbled a bit’, but so far.
No Problems.  (About 1/16 - 1/8”)
Next time I take the rear wheel off,
I will do the, ‘fix’, as outlined in the Teck Section.
But at present, not worried about it.

Which is More TRUE, today, than yesterday.('06, S-40, Stock) well, mostly .

the "flaps" will tighten it a bit.  a better fix is to modify the carrier with a bushing.   machining required....but worth it.

If you have to pay for machining.........probably NOT worth it........

here is my carrier with a PVC bushing to slip fit into the rear wheel spool.
